The seal section (or protector) is coupled directly to the top of the motor forming a reservoir of mineral oil. Its primary function is to equalize internal motor pressure with the outside bore pressure of the well thereby stopping the migration of wellbore fluid into the motor. The seal section also houses the thrust bearing that accepts the thrust loading from the pump.
