The well is basically a hole that has been bored into the earths crust
to provide a passageway for the flow of oil from a reservoir to the
surface. After a well is drilled, it is lined with a steel casing that
is cemented into the surrounding rock. Casings are manufactured in
standard diameters that range from 4 1/2 inches to 13 5/8 inches OD.
Wells can vary in depth from 300 ft to over 20,000 ft.
